Teacher Notes for the week
Ms Manzoli’s grade 2/3 class:
On Wednesday the 2/3’s will have the opportunity to explore creating and investigating structures. Scientist in our school will be organizing various hands on activities. If you signed up to volunteer please arrive at 12:00 for set up. In language we begin looking at persuasive writing. We will learn ways to persuade our opinion on various topics. Our words for the week will focus on antonyms, words that mean the opposite. Example: on/off, left/right. In math, we look at division.
A reminder that students should be reading 15 to 20 minutes daily to ensure they keep up with their reading skills. Let’s hope the weather will warm up so we can begin to see some tulips.
Ms Myers Grade 1 class:
We are wrapping up our unit on Energy. The students have had two opportunities to work in our school Maker Space investigating electricity and circuits. It was a great chance for the kids to apply what we have been discussing in class. A big “shout out” to Mr. McCulley, our University of Ottawa student teacher who helped guide our inquiry! This week, Bev Wilcox, our school public health nurse will visit our class to talk about active transportation and safety. April homework will be due on Wednesday of this week. As well, the “Wonderful Ones” will be leading the Morning Announcements. If your child has been asked to say a prayer, please have them practice reading it aloud to you in preparation.
One of Ms Myers’ students working in this week’s maker space – they love the maker space!
Ms Rupnik’s PLC Class
We have a Digital Camera Workshop scheduled on Monday, April 27, 2015. The students will take photographs of short and long vowel items in and around the school community. Then, over the course of a week or two, the students will complete their Google slide presentation using their very own digital photographs. We will also continue with narrative writing, specifically with our wordless picture book app called Imagistory on our IPADS during centers.
Here is our first draft of Catholic education Week – the whole week is OPEN HOUSE – please come in, visit your son or daughter’s class, have a coffee, bring some food for other parents and get a family portrait made for free!! here is the link to our calendar – https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1iAPEkbKpV1pdeLgM7EIPVloMGZ22EmKy_3KmdcvXgJM/edit?usp=sharing
